When you would see things like *eye of newt* *dogs tongue* ect. there was a reason for this, no they did NOT use these things for real, these names were used to hide the names of the herbs being used.

Oh, and that
old "eye of newt" thing??? from What really is "Eye of Newt"? This refers
to a form of yellow mustard seed that has a black to dark green spot on
it, and yes it looks like the eye of a newt. This was added to many medicines,
so when you see them throwing eye of newt in the cauldron in the movies
and it smokes up, that is just some water on their hand landing on a piece
of dry ice, or a little salt peter touching some smoldering incense. It
was also used in ancient time by adding a couple seeds to your mouth as
you eat meat, it added to the flavor. So, basically Eye of Newt is just
a seed, which resembles an eye. Another one to add to your gross misconceptions
list. I got these off another list i belong to, actually quite interesting
with appropriate website. enjoy !
